Galvanizing and wet or powder coating (Duplex)

Over the past few years, hot-dip galvanizing has increasingly provided an additional organic coating to enhance protection of components exposed to major loads or to combine the customer's preferred colours with corrosion protection. After hot-dip galvanizing, either powder or wet paint coating systems can be applied. In most applications, the component surface is first submitted to trimming, sweeping or a wet-chemical treatment. The choice of the pre-treatment depends, among other factors, on the time of the coating application.

More than just a better appearance

Unlike metallic zinc coatings with their silvery-grey appearance, Duplex systems allow the full range of colours to be used. To ensure the colour effect applies correctly, it is important to trim the component prior to coating. Depending on the customer’s requirements in terms of product performance and design, we offer three standards of trim: “industrial”, “decorative” and “premium”.

Greatly enhanced durability

When comparing the durability of a Duplex system with the durability of a conventional system, you will discover that by combining two systems, the durability of the protection is clearly increased. This synergy can increase the service life by a factor of up to 2.5. The Duplex system works thanks to the mutual protection of the two components involved. Firstly, the zinc coating is protected by the additional coating from atmospheric and chemical impacts, thus avoiding wear. Secondly, the hot-dip galvanizing prevents or delays corrosion creep and the detaching of coating in the event of damage.
